How to create a WordPress page

From the WordPress admin click “Pages” in the menu. If any pages has been created the list will be visible here. Now click the “Add New” button at the top of the page.

1: Add a page title

The first thing you need to do is add a page title. This title will be visible for your users when adding it to your website menu. However, it can be changed in the menu later on. In some themes the page title is also displayed on the page when a user visits it.

2: Page content

In the large text area, you can add your page content – just below the title.

3: Select a page template

If your theme supports different page templates you can change it. Page templates defines the look of your page. Maybe you have a full width page template, a left sidebar template, a right sidebar template or something different. Choose the template you need.

4: Permalink

The permalink will be generated from the page title. If you like you can change this. The permalink is the URL that is used in the browser to access the page. In general, it is a good idea that the title and permalink match for best SEO practice. Permalinks must contain of small letters, numbers and can’t contain spaces or special characters.

5: Featured image

Some themes might display the featured image of the page. In such case upload or choose an image from the WordPress media library. Read the tutorial on how to upload images to the media library here.

6: Visibility and page status

You can choose to save your page as a draft. This is useful if you want to keep working on the page before publishing. The page might need to be published on a specific date but with the opportunity to save it as a draft you can prepare the page days or months before the publish date.

It is also possible to make pages private or password protected. This can be useful if you only want certain users to access the page content.

In most cases you would probably publish your page public.
