MySQL is pronounced "my-see-quill" or "my-es-que-el"

MySQL is usually used in connection to PHP. MySQL is a database system which allows you to receive and store data from your website. These input data's can then later be retrieved and applied to your website using PHP. MySQL can as an example be use for a guest book on your website, where the names of visitors and their comments can be stored in the database. These names and comments can then be retrieved from the database and shown on your website.

MySQL is an extremely user-friendly system, which makes it easy for you to store data until they are needed on your site. You can think of MySQL as a giant online excel document, where data can be organized into fields and tables, making it easy to find data when needed.

MySQL is an essential part of almost every open source PHP application. Well known examples of PHP/MySQL-based scripts are phpBB, Wordpress, and Joomla.
